“Turk is not the name of a race or an ethnic origin, but the name of a great nation honored with Islam, a nation that rebels against oppression and injustice,” he said.

Akkuş, stating that May 3rd is a historical moment in the manifestation of the will to exist of Turkish nationalism, expressed the following in his message: “I emphasize that I am honored and proud to be a member of a nation that has carried the banner of Islam for more than 10 centuries. ‘Turk’ is not the name of a race or ethnic origin, but the name of a great nation predominantly living in Central Asia, Anatolia, the Balkans, and the Middle East, honored by Islam, and rebelling against oppression and injustice. From history to the present day, as a nation, we have proudly and honorably sacrificed our own existence for the sake of our sacred homeland. Nationalism is working and producing to ensure our beloved nation takes its rightful place in the world. Our national survival and independence are indisputable conditions.”

May 1st, which was accepted to be celebrated as “Labor and Solidarity Day” in April 2008, was declared an official holiday by a law passed in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye on April 22, 2009.

Celebrated in all countries as a day of unity, solidarity, and struggle against injustice, May 1st symbolizes the peaceful and democratic pursuit of rights by our working citizens. It is a special day where diverse views and opinions converge around the sanctity of labor. May 1st, Labor and Solidarity Day, a day of hard work, physical labor, dedication, and justice, is celebrated to highlight various problems in working life, propose solutions, and resolve potential conflicts between workers and employers, establishing a balance based on rights and laws.

On this occasion, I wish for the May 1st Labor and Solidarity Day to be celebrated in a festive atmosphere free from all negativity, where peace, tolerance, and brotherhood prevail. I celebrate this day as a symbol of all our working citizens seeking their rights through democratic and peaceful means, and I wish health, well-being, and success to all our brothers and sisters who earn their bread with their sweat. I wish our beloved nation and all the nations of the world a future free from blood and tears, filled with peace, unity, togetherness, and brotherhood.

We are honored and delighted to celebrate the 106th anniversary of the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and the 23rd April National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, a gift from Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk to the children.

April 23, 1920, the date on which the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, one of the most fundamental institutions of our state, was opened with the understanding that “Sovereignty belongs unconditionally to the nation,” is the date when our beloved nation, with all its children from young to old, rose again and declared its independence to the whole world through its selfless struggle for its nation, state, flag, call to prayer, and independence.

The opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey is a crucial turning point that paved the way for the liberation of the Turkish nation, which was in the midst of a fiery ordeal, and for the declaration of its republic. It is a moment when the people asserted their sovereignty, new hopes blossomed, and new horizons opened for our country. Gazi Mustafa Kemal, who entrusted the republic he founded to our youth, the guarantors of the future, also gifted April 23rd as a holiday to the children he loved so much.

Atatürk’s decision to dedicate this day as a holiday to children is the most important indicator of the value and trust he placed in them. It is also one of our most important duties to raise our children, who are the guarantee of a strong and happy future, as knowledgeable, productive, hardworking, and successful individuals who are wholeheartedly devoted to their country, nation, and national and spiritual values.

On this occasion, I commemorate with respect and gratitude the founder of our Republic, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and his comrades-in-arms, as well as all the heroes of our War of Independence, our martyrs, and our veterans who sacrificed their lives for the survival of our homeland and nation.

Celebrating its 181st anniversary, our Police Organization has been working with great dedication for nearly two centuries to ensure the indivisible integrity of the Homeland and Nation, the peace and happiness of our people, the safety of life and property, and to protect human rights and freedoms.

Our security forces, who serve shoulder-to-shoulder with our citizens in their duties such as maintaining public order, ensuring security, taking preventive measures against crime, and bringing perpetrators to justice, put their own lives on the line for the security of our country and our beloved nation.

Policing is not just a profession; it is a sacred duty performed with a high sense of responsibility, a strong emphasis on duty, and a deep belief in justice. This effort to protect human life, uphold the law, and maintain social peace requires great dedication and courage.
